As a Design Intern for Mirum Minneapolis, the other interns and I were given the opportunity to find and solve a problem that benefits the non-profit, GiGi’s Playhouse. Gigi’s is a Down Syndrome Achievement Center with a mission to change the way the world views Down Syndrome and to send a global message of acceptance for all. They offer free educational, therapeutic-based and career development programs for individuals with Down syndrome, their families and the community, through a replicable playhouse model.
After meeting with the representatives of the Minneapolis location, our team found that the website served as a main resource for communication for the GiGi’s community. However, the the problem we found was that there are so many events and programs that the website became overwhelming, especially on mobile. There was also no way for members of the GiGi’s community to connect outside of the playhouse itself.
Our solution was to create a mobile app that would make the lives of the families, volunteers and other frequent visitors of the Playhouse easier. Overall, the app is a hub for each local GiGi’s community to connect, share stories and stay organized with their busy schedule.
